Business & Operations
Advertisements
The newspaper that is delivered to your home or office not only conveys the latest social events, but also lists information concerning sponsored events, as well as advertisements for various corporate merchandise and services.
Newspapers have several key characteristics: reliability (gained through preliminary assessments of facts),comprehensiveness (providing detailed and thorough information), perspicuity (granting a complete picture of the content), and preservability (articles can be reread).
Like our newspaper, the Doshin Digital, the website for the Hokkaido Shimbun Press, posts various advertisements. Some of these include "banner ads" which will link directly to the advertiser's site, "text ads" which convey information through text, and some video advertisements.
The advertisements can be seen by other viewers besides our readers, and help supplement our newspaper adds. In order to provide necessary information effectively, there are symposiums and seminars linked with the paper, in which many of our viewers participate.
Besides our Sapporo Headquarters, we have five branch offices in Hokkaido, including Hakodate and Asahikawa, Kushiro, one in Tokyo and one in Osaka, allowing us to conduct operations in detail. By disseminating necessary information in detail, we aim to contribute to the enrichment of each Hokkaido resident's lifestyle, as well as stimulate development in each community.
Events
Each year, the Hokkaido Shimbun Press presents approximately 600 events throughout Hokkaido. The project business varies from the directions of such large scale events as marathons, fireworks, art exhibitions, and the Sapporo Snow Festival to the organizations of cultural events like calligraphy, painting, Ikebana and photo displays, concerts, seminars and symposiums.
As for art exhibitions, we have introduced numerous great masters including Van Gogh, Renoir, Chagall and more, as well as the artifacts which convey the cultures and civilizations of all ages and nations through Egypt Exhibit, Silk Road Exhibit, Jomon Exhibit and so forth.
The annual Hokkaido Marathon has become a race of both top athletes and local citizens running together. The race has entries of 20,000 runners and 4,000 volunteers, and spectators crowd the streets to cheer the runners.
We also support almost 2,000 events held in Hokkaido, and through the many commitments, we make positive contributions to our readers, residents of Hokkaido, and to the development of local community.
Publications
Here at the Hokkaido Shimbun Press, we aim to "contribute to print culture and the community," by publishing books that encourage Hokkaido and meet the needs of our readers in fields such as nature, literature, art, food, health, sports and leisure activities. We also believe that it is duty of the publishing department of a newspaper to document and record the activities of Hokkaido history, culture, politics, economy and society.
Each year we publish approximately 40 books; our guidebooks such as the summer mountain guide, a long-time seller, illustrative botanical encyclopedias, and sports books on the professional baseball team Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters and the J League soccer team Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo are highly favored among our readers.
Where magazines are concerned, we publish "Doshin Entrance Exam Guide," and a magazine titled 'Hospitals of Hokkaido." Our unique ability to gather information for each article is fully utilized and has gained the trust of readers and students preparing for entrance exams.
We are also a member of the National Newspaper Publishing Council which is comprised of 46 newspaper companies that exist between Hokkaido and Okinawa. The members of the council work together to bring into realization book fairs that are held several times a year, as well as make local publications known nationwide.
