Coverage and Reporting

One of the distinguishing characteristics of Hokkaido Shimbun Press is our intricately woven web of branch offices and printing factories spread throughout Hokkaido. Besides our Sapporo Main Office there are nine branch offices, a general office and thirty-eight satellite branch office that gather and report the news from each part of Hokkaido. Outside of Hokkaido, we have branch offices in Tokyo and Osaka that are able to cover the political, cultural and sports genres of national news. We have five reporters posted in four countries, not to mention our cordial relationship with the Chunichi Shimbun, Tokyo Shimbun Press, Nishi Nihon Shimbun, news agencies, as well as foreign newspaper companies, adding to our wide international network.

We have five printing factories located in Hokkaido, which allows us to promptly deliver newspapers containing all the local news to homes and offices. The Hokkaido Shimbun is a local newspaper read by the citizens of Hokkaido and is fondly referred to as "Doshin". We are strongly supported by our readers for the consistent position we take in creating our paper which is to cover stories from the vantage point of the citizens of Hokkaido.

We produce many local news pages to deliver thorough and relevant local news to our readers in 23 different regions in Hokkaido. In order to create and distribute such a paper every day, the headquarters in Sapporo has a general news center, an economic news section, a sports news section, a cultural news section, a life & welfare news section and a photo & video news section to cover all aspects of the news. Our writers posted at each branch office are dedicated to searching for and reporting, without lacking detail, local activities.

The general news center in Tokyo covers the activities of the central government agencies in Kasumigaseki, the prime minister's office, economics, and private corporations. As far as foreign affairs are concerned, our main focus is on Russia with whom we have strong ties, and we have writers in two locations, Moscow and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Our writers in Tokyo and abroad not only cover national and international news, but also keep a close eye on any activities that may relate to Hokkaido and writing relevant articles.
